Hello, my name is Aja Campbell. I am an aspiring professional dancer and movement therapist. On March 3rd 2026, I was receiving physical therapy for my knee. The physical therapist was performing an exam on me where I was laying face down on an exam table and she raised my leg up in a curve towards my head. Once she reached a certain point it began to hurt my lower back. I have a herniated disc in my lumbar spine as well. As soon as I felt pain I picked my head up and turned it towards her standing above me and told her. She then proceeded to do the same exact thing to my other leg and I responded in the same exact way. Immediately as I got off of the table I felt a shooting nerve pain going down the back of my left arm. This pain persisted for the rest of the day and the next day the back of my neck began to burn as if it was on fire. Ever since then I have been experiencing pain and pressure pushing forward on the back and side of my cervical spine. When I tried to report the injury to the company in an effort to receive treatment assistance, they denied any and all liability; claiming that it's "impossible" for me to have gotten injured in the way that I did. Hearing this broke me because I knew I wouldn't be able to afford treatment on my own. I am unemployed and my other health issues (lupus, depression, anxiety, cptsd, and adhd) make it extremely difficult for me to find and maintain work. I have also already had to go through a very similarly disheartening medical experience with worker's compensation for my herniated/bulging disc in my lumbar spine where they also denied all liability for my injury; so hearing this news in conjunction with the potential of never being able to do my passion without pain again sent me into a mental health crisis where I planned to take my own life. With emotional support from my friends and family along with professional help I decided to stay, but unfortunately I am still suffering greatly. I am starting physical therapy very soon but the only treatment in the world that can actually physically reverse herniated/bulging discs is called decompression. Decompression costs $3,576 and it is not covered by insurance. The only way I would be able to afford such a large lump sum is through a medical credit card company called care credit but myself along with both of my parents were denied.
