I am still undergoing treatment for cancer, and because it’s a rare form, I have to travel to Houston, TX for bloodwork, CT scans, and follow-up appointments every 3 months. This means I’m not only facing mounting medical bills but also the added burden of travel expenses. I tried applying for financial assistance at MD Anderson but was denied because I am not a Texas resident. The financial strain has been immense, and I simply cannot afford these costs on my own.
In 2024, I underwent surgery and chemotherapy for a rare form of ovarian cancer. The journey has been overwhelming, and far from over.
I was off work for three months during treatment. I returned to work earlier than planned because of financial pressures and my desire to get back to “normal” life. Unfortunately, my car was stolen from the work parking lot, forcing me to purchase a new vehicle just as I was close to paying off the old one.
When I returned, I was treated very differently at work. My job was restructured, my pay was lowered, my job title was changed, my office was taken from me, and my career path was changed completely. With a new sense of self-respect and determination, I made the difficult decision to leave. I’m grateful to have found a new job that I enjoy, but it comes with a significant pay cut, and I was out of work for a month and a half during the transition.
Through all of this, my motivation has been my incredible child, who is turning 13 this year. I am fighting every day to be here for him and to give him the best future possible. Asking for help is not something that comes easily to me, I’ve always been the one to support others. It feels uncomfortable and humbling to reach out, but this treatment is working and is the best path for me. Any support, whether it’s a donation or just sending good vibes my way, means the world to me. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any kindness you can offer.
