Hi everyone,
My name is Anyileidis Macias and I’m reaching out on behalf of my sister, Ailin Macias who is going through an incredibly challenging time due to ongoing health issues.
In 2020, during the height of COVID, Ailin’s life changed in ways she never could have imagined. She spent 58 days in the ICU, intubated 4 times before she went into cardiac arrest -fighting just to stay alive. When she woke up, everything was different—she was in renal failure and had to begin dialysis just to survive.
After nine long months, she received a kidney and pancreas transplant, a moment that felt like hope had finally found her again. We truly believed she was getting her life back. But that hope quickly turned into a long and painful journey filled with complications, infections, and repeated hospital stays. Still, she held on. She kept working her 9–5, pushing through the pain and exhaustion, trying so hard to live a normal life.
After 5 years of being transplanted, she began to show signs of organ rejection. The treatments to save her organs left her drained, weak, and often unable to function. Eventually, her body gave out in more ways than one—her body rejected the transplanted organs. Due to the ongoing treatments, hospitalizations, and health decline, she was left unable to work any longer. Finally, found herself back on dialysis, starting over once again.
As if that wasn’t enough, the loss of our mother in October while fighting for her life has been one of the hardest things she’s ever faced. The grief, combined with everything else, has been overwhelming.
Since then, her health has continued to spiral. Ailin has been hospitalized multiple times due to infections that led to sepsis, severe blood pressure issues, and extreme fluid retention. In March, we rushed her to the hospital with extreme shortness of breath and dangerously high blood pressure. That’s when doctors found a growth in her heart valve. At this time, having open-heart surgery was the only way to survive. Today, she is recovering from that surgery while still on dialysis, waiting and hoping for another chance at life through a transplant.
Every day feels like a fight—physically, emotionally, and financially. Maintaining a job has become nearly impossible with the constant hospitalizations and treatments. Ailin has always been someone who worked hard and took pride in being independent, and it’s incredibly difficult to be in a position where she needs to ask for help.
Her dream is simple but feels so far away—to have her life back. To be able to work again, to be independent and feel full of life! I am humbly asking for any support you can give. Every donation, no matter how small, will help her cover medical expenses and basic living needs while she continues this fight. If you can’t donate, sharing her story would mean the world to us.
From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for taking the time to read a glimpse of her story and for any kindness you can offer during this incredibly difficult time.
