It’s June 11th, 2024. High School Graduation, a milestone for my grandson Aiden… we are all so proud of him. Not just his accomplishments in school, but in life itself. He doesn’t drink, smoke, or take drugs… I always end that sentence with (YET).
Through the years, he has befriended many. He would never intentionally hurt anyone’s feelings… in fact, he would always stand up for the underdog no matter what anyone thought. I just want to give you a look at what kind of person he truly is.
I remember when he was ten or eleven years old, we were watching the news before dinner. He saw that the food bank was low on food (just happened to be at the senior center), he jumped up and insisted we do something about it. I said we could make a food donation… (not good enough) he requested I make one of my Christmas trees but large scale and have a raffle to make money for food. I called the director of the program and got the ok… when we delivered the tree the news media was there!!! (Oh no, I did not sign up for this) Aiden handled it like a pro! They raised money and because of the news, they were given more donations. We were very proud of him… not to mention every time ASPCA or Wounded Warriors or St.Jude came on TV, he wanted us to make a donation, he even wrote reminders for us!
Now to present… Aiden loves cars… he treated his Jeep like it was his best friend… he just spent over $800.00 having things fixed. For a kid in school paying his own insurance, gas & upkeep, I think that’s impressive.
On graduation night, we all went out for dinner and had a nice time. His plans were to have his best friend Patrick spend the night, hang out and play those dang video games! They went out for a while to hang at the usual places with friends.
At 11:48, I got an SOS emergency message. There was a crash and emergency services have been dispatched and location was given. I screamed for my daughter who was already on her way out the door with husband & daughter in tow. Can I tell you the awful things that went through my mind crippled me.
Fast forward… some (subhuman) following my grandson flashing his lights deliberately hit the back of Aiden’s Jeep… and he fishtailed, then this crazy person hit him again on back side flipping Aiden’s Jeep over and it landed on its roof… then caught fire… what does this Subhuman do? He turns his lights off and drives away.
My grandson is in Yale New Haven Hospital with a broken collarbone, broken ribs, messed up shoulder, bruised lungs, punctured lung with a chest tube in along with lacerations on various parts of him. I pray he will come out of this and be ok… I am grateful to God he is still here with us. I am grateful to God Patrick is ok and still here with us.
I am not asking for you to dig deep… just if you might have an extra buck or two and if you wouldn’t mind making a donation towards a vehicle… he was going to take an EMS / Surgical Tech course as he wants to be a Fireman. He has been saving for the class. But now he will need a car. I know he would never ask, he never asks for anything for that matter… except “YaYa can you make me something to eat I’m starving” that he is always asking!! Very sad the most memorable day turned into the most horrific night.
