Support Aiden's Journey with Perthes Disease

Donation protected
Hi! For those of you who don't know this little boy, this is Aiden. He is 8 years old and full of life and energy. Aiden was recently diagnosed with Perthes Disease in August of this year. Perthes disease is a rare childhood hip disorder that is initiated by a disruption of blood flow to the head of the femur. Due to the lack of blood flow, the bone begins to die and stops growing, or in our case, it flattens.

Aiden was diagnosed with Perthes in his right hip. From the date he was diagnosed, he has been NWB (Non Weight Bearing) on his right leg and has been using crutches. For those of you who may know Aiden, you know just how much he LOVES soccer, and unfortunately, this forced him to stop playing.

Despite it all, Aiden has shown resilience and remained hopeful that he will be able to play again in the future.

Since being diagnosed, Aiden has gone through 2 different X-rays, had an MRI with contrast (which he did awesome for; this was his first time having an IV as well), and given up all physical activities that involve using his leg. Unfortunately, with him remaining NWB on his leg for the last 2 months, as well as doing daily stretches to help him with his range of motion and sleeping with an abduction pillow, his right leg is only performing at 35%. At this point, the doctor has decided that surgical intervention is necessary. Aiden will be undergoing surgery on November 13th, 2024. This, we are hoping, will be his only surgery, but depending on the healing process, additional procedures may be needed. Aiden will be in an A-Frame cast for 4-6 weeks and require close care. We do plan to remove him from school prior to the surgery to allow him to learn from the comfort of home.

The reason for this GoFundMe page is to help support our family. With Aiden undergoing surgery this November, I do plan on taking a personal LOA from work. I unfortunately discovered that this time away from work would not qualify for any sort of compensation, and me staying home with Aiden is my priority. We are already experiencing the influx of bills from different scans and doctor's visits and are wanting to put all of our time and energy into Aiden and supporting him during this difficult time. We'd also like to find a hobby or activity for Aiden to participate in to continue to keep his spirits up.

We know God will get Aiden through this, and we are praying often for quick healing and for our boy to get back to the things he loves. I leave you with my son's prayer request and a thank you to those who read this far and for anything that is donated, we truly appreciate the support.

"My prayer is... God could heal me of my injury on my hip and I could run and play with my friends at school."

12/19/24 UPDATE
Since our last update we shared that Aiden was scheduled for surgery. On 11/12/24 Aiden had his first surgery and it went well! Minimal pain for him and he was a trooper when it came to the healing process and changing his routines.

We went in on 12/5/24 and had additional X-rays done that shows his bone under the hip
bone and his ROM has improved! The bone is still in the fragmentation stage and he will remain non weight bearing. He was also fitted for his brace that he’ll wear for the next 6 months to a year.

Today 12/19/24 we went back to orthotics and received our brace. This brace will keep Aiden in an A-frame position ensuring the bone continues to regrow correctly. He’ll have to wear this brace for 20hours a day with 4 hours on his crutches. He’s not ready to attempt walking in his brace or with crutches just yet so if you could say a prayer for his strength.

Thank you everyone for your donations and continued prayers!!
