Aidan Riggle, son of Jim and Kristen (Yerxa) Riggle, is a high school senior at East Knox High School in Howard, Ohio. Thoughtful and well liked by everyone who knows him, Aidan is known for his hard working attitude, his great sense of humor, and his kind and generous spirit. He is also an awesome older brother to Benton and Sawyer.
In February 2025, Aidan started to have chest pain. Then knee pain. Then shoulder pain. Then both legs and hip pain. Then back pain. He visited his primary care, urgent care, emergency room, a cardiologist, two chiropractors, a sports trainer, a sports medicine doctor, and a rheumatologist... He was told he had this pain because of a sports injury, tendonitis, bursitis, Lyme’s, juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
He dealt with insurance refusing to cover his urgent full body MRI for 2 weeks. When he was finally able to get his MRI, it took almost 2.5 hours. Days later, his rheumatologist called with the results, which were quite honestly a shock. He had gone in believing/hoping it was something called CRMO- chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis. Unfortunately, those were not the results of his extensive tests. After an emergency referral appointment with an oncologist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, he spent last week in the hospital having bone biopsies, interventional radiology, CT scans, and other testing.
The oncologist called again on 8/13 and explained that Aidan has adenocarcinoma. This is crushing news.
Aidan is the strongest kid we know. He pushes through everything, but he is in quite a lot of constant pain. This is by far the hardest thing physically and mentally he has had to deal with. Today, August 14th, is his 18th birthday and he is spending it in the hospital getting more scans and more testing. This is the beginning of his senior year of high school, where he is supposed to be hanging out with friends, making memories, and is also one of the Senior Captains of his football team.
As we await test results to see the scope and severity of this cancer diagnosis, we are asking any and every one of his friends and family to please pray for him. Pray for clarity for his medical team and for successful treatment. Pray for comfort from his pain and peace for his mind. Obviously we’d love prayers for healing and miracles. We’d also love prayers for strength-- physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
Aidan and his family would be honored to receive support during this difficult time: for medical bills, travel expenses, and all kinds of unforseen costs this difficult journey will likely bring. Thank you so much for your support for this wonderful family.
