Help Ahmed Through Surgery and Recovery

Over the past months, my dear friend Ahmed has been facing an overwhelming series of health challenges. While undergoing treatment for skin cancer — which he discovered only recently — he has been paying for his medical sessions entirely out of pocket, without insurance, while continuing to work and push forward despite the heavy physical and emotional toll.

Just as he was navigating this difficult chapter, Ahmed was suddenly hit with another serious and unexpected struggle: a complete shutdown of his bowel function. He now relies on daily enemas just to be able to pass stool — a reality that is physically exhausting, painful, and deeply distressing. After extensive medical examinations, doctors confirmed that he needs a rectal prolapse surgery.

This surgery is especially high-risk in Ahmed’s case because he lives with two mechanical heart valves following two open-heart surgeries, which means he must remain on lifelong blood thinners. This significantly increases the risks surrounding any surgical procedure and requires highly specialized medical care. Because of these complications, Ahmed will need special post-operative care, including a longer hospital stay under close medical supervision to ensure his safety, manage bleeding risks, and carefully monitor his recovery.

Ahmed’s life has been marked by extraordinary resilience — from major open-heart surgeries, to cancer treatment, and now a condition that deeply affects his daily life, dignity, and basic functioning. Yet even through all of this, he continues to show up. Despite everything he is going through, Ahmed works every single day, juggling two jobs while remaining grateful throughout. His strength and sense of responsibility have kept him moving forward during an extraordinarily difficult time.

Anyone who knows Ahmed knows his kindness, integrity, and quiet strength. He is not only a deeply committed teacher who has helped countless students connect with language and culture, but also a passionate filmmaker driven by empathy and truth.

This is the moment Ahmed needs us beside him the most. He needs time, proper medical care, and financial support to safely undergo this surgery and focus fully on healing — without the crushing weight of medical expenses, uncertainty, and fear.
