Support Agustina’s Road to Recovery

Hi everyone,
It saddens my heart that my dear friend, Agustina Mendez, got into a severe road scooter accident. I am grateful she had the strength to call and I am with her in the hospital. She is an incredible artist, friend, mother, neighbor community organizer, and activist. She is a fighter and South Side artist. We became friends in Pilsen and always inspired me to be my best self. She taught me the first foundations of driving along with supporting me to pursue a creative journey. She has always supported fellow artists and creatives and attended many community events. She always stands up for justice and is avidly advocating for challenging systems of oppression. She has faced various challenges but continues to do better for herself. She is currently a general manager at a restaurant and she has been actively looking for stable housing. Since this accident that occurred August 2 in 2024, I am asking our community to invest in our friend’s recovery. The surgeon had to put staples to her head and she currently is in active ICU based on some brain bleeding. I would like us to fund her recovery as she rests along with finding stable housing.
As her friend, Ram, I am a past teacher for 5 years and I am training as a dancer with various teams in Chicago. I have also been actively involved in community organizing for 5+ years. I also have been a nonprofit board member for 3 Chicago based organizations, Woke Chicago, Liberated Arts, and PCCCArts. I made this gofundme in order to support this amazing community organizer and dear friend of mine.
how funds will be organized:
- Secure monthly lease for an apartment in the South Side where Agustina has resided
- Secure physical and emotional therapy along with medical follow up
- Secure Uber rides for travel
- Secure payment for phone bill for two months
- Secure funding for basic needs such as grocery and clothing
- workplace compensation as she will likely need to take 3 weeks off for brain trauma
