Sorry for not keeping everyone posted regularly thru this intense time. But my gramma passed yesterday. From the time she was admitted for pneumonia, the forced air they'd put her on had collapsed her lungs. I believe it was onset from her showing up to my house that was actively burning and refusing to leave for about 15 to 20 minutes. Her lungs have been shot for quite some time, and she was no stranger to pneumonia, having no immune system. She had multiple blebs and weak spots on top of staph and fungal infections. They had inserted 3 tube's into her chest to relieve the air in her cavity. They didn't help, possibly from a tube that was placed improperly. Which would cause air to continually leak. She was intubated, then flown out shortly after. Once the specialists ran all their tests, there was no realistic option other than going to comfort care. My grandma has been suffering from her condition for decades, as we all know. And with no quality of life for the situation, I had to make the decision to exubate her. She and I have had plenty of talks of her wishes, especially recently with her last er visit. We had thought that was going to be it, not even two months ago. From the time they removed the tube, it took 40 minutes for her to pass. I've been going thru this with her for quite some time and knew it was coming, but it doesn't make it any easier. She held on longer than the doctors anticipated over the years. Thank you for all of the love and concern during this time. She was a sweet and loving lady, and appreciated all of everyone's love and support thruout the years. She will be cremated, and eventually, I will try to plan a celebration of life for her in the near future. Due to my circumstances of my house burning up, I'm trying my best to navigate how to handle this, having no experience. She didn't have anything put aside for cremation, and I'm not in the best place financially. The total for cremation is going to cost $1445. On a final note, it's been brought to my attention that there are family members spreading misinformation. I am the one who has been taking my gramma to her her appointments and keeping in communication with her doctors for a long time. I understand everyone grieves differently. But if anyone has any questions, I'm an open book. I may not respond immediately, but will get to you all at some point.
