Tyler is a bright, kind, hard‑working Grade 10 student who has already overcome more than most adults ever will. After undergoing brain tumor removal, he has been doing everything he can to rebuild his life — but he urgently needs specialized support that he simply isn’t receiving.
Despite his determination, Tyler currently reads and writes at a Grade 1–3 level, and he struggles with basic math. These challenges are not due to lack of effort — they are the direct result of the neurological impact of his tumor and surgery.
To understand what is happening in his brain and how to support him properly, Tyler needs a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment. This assessment is essential for:
- identifying cognitive impacts from his surgery
- determining his learning profile
- accessing appropriate accommodations
- guiding effective tutoring and rehabilitation
Unfortunately, Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School, has refused to provide academic supports, stating that Tyler is “passing his classes.” This does not reflect his actual abilities or needs, and it leaves him without the tools required to succeed.
Tyler remains on a 6+ year wait list for the assessment at the children's hospital- but he needs help now.
We are pursing private assessment and private tutoring, which come with significant costs that his family cannot manage alone.
What the funds will cover:
- Neuropsychological assessment (private) ($4000-$6000- depending on the time needed to complete the assessment).
- Specialized reading/writing/math tutoring ($50/1 hour session)
- Learning materials and supports (cost to be determined once Tyler receives a neuropsychology assessment)
- Transportation for appointments
Tyler deserves the chance to learn, grow, and rebuild his future with dignity. Every contribution — no matter the size — brings him one step closer to the support he urgently needs.
Thank you for helping give Tyler the fair chance he deserves.
