18-year-old Afghan cyclist Afsana Nawrozi has been a member of the Afghan women’s national cycling team for over two years. Early in 2020 Afsana was hit by a truck while on a training ride. She underwent a collarbone surgery and her bike was destroyed. She reached out to Mountain Bike Afghanistan founder, Farid Noori, who through his non profit organization was able to shift resources to her so she could continue to cycle.
Mountain Bike Afghanistan's mission is to bring promising young Afghan cyclists in the US to train, race and realize their full cycling potential. Regardless of work ethic and talent, the obstacles facing Afghanistan cyclists like Afsana are vast. This was true even before the Taliban regime took over. In an effort to fast-track the journey of promising young Afghan cyclists, Mountain Bike Afghanistan created a program to bring cyclists to the US where they will have better resources and access to train and grow in their discipline while completing their education.
After months of waiting Afsana has just been granted a student visa to come to the US and finish High School. While she has been given support for tuition we want to make sure she has the resources needed. With her family dotted across the globe in different parts of the world she starts this brave new chapter alone in the US. Please join us and the cycling community in supporting this remarkable young lady and show her that we may come from different places but the bike unites us all.
All funds collected through this fundraiser will go to Afsana’s needs while in the US for school.
