Hi, I’m working with a remarkable initiative that helps Afghan legal professionals — especially women — restart their careers by pairing them with mentors, securing full scholarships for LLM programs in the U.S., and, when possible, providing need- and merit-based stipends for housing and living expenses.

Through this work, I have seen the extraordinary resilience of lawyers, judges, and prosecutors who were displaced after the Taliban takeover. Many of them lost everything — their professions, their homes, and their livelihoods — and are now working to rebuild their futures from scratch. The program provides critical educational support, but sometimes small, unexpected needs arise that fall outside the scope of scholarship awards.

Today, we are raising funds to help one such Mentee Fellow who is about to begin law school in the U.S. While tuition has been covered, the student faces fees and expenses that the program’s stipend does not address. These include:

Together, these costs amount to $3,615.76 — a daunting sum for someone who has already endured so much and is beginning again in a new country.

This is a humanitarian effort, and every dollar goes directly to helping this Afghan legal professional take the next step in rebuilding a life and career devoted to justice and the rule of law.
