Support Afghan Women Breadwinners: The Marhama Project by Qatra

We are launching the Marhama Project, a grassroots initiative under the umbrella of Qatra, a non-profit organization.

What Is the Marhama Project?

The Marhama Project supports Afghan women who are the sole breadwinners of their families, many of whom are trapped in poverty under the current regime. These women are skilled in sewing and traditional handcrafts but lack access to the tools, safety, and markets they need to earn a dignified living.
This project provides:

Sewing machines and quality raw materials
A secure shared workspace for professional and safe working conditions
Stable monthly income for women
Ongoing mentorship, coordination, and logistical support
A channel to sell their products in international markets
Full transparency through weekly updates on our official Instagram and LinkedIn pages
Capacity-building weekly programs

Who Is Behind This Work?

Our operations are led by a dedicated team of experts and professionals. We are proud to be working with qualified staff with expertise in development, business, design, and logistics. Team members will be introduced through our official LinkedIn page.
Locally, we are supported by a team of female agents in Afghanistan who manage the secure delivery of funds, materials, and coordination with the women artisans.

Our Current Work

We are currently working with 8 women in need during the first phase. This phase includes:

Providing equipment and materials
Renting a safe workspace
Starting product design and craftwork
Preparing for international marketing and sales
Collecting feedback and refining operations
All work is being documented, and daily and weekly updates are posted on our Instagram and LinkedIn platforms, including:

Progress photos and videos
Personal stories of each woman (with consent)
Transparent financial updates
We are committed to visibility and accountability throughout the process.

Official Registration & Financial Transparency

Qatra is now officially registered as a nonprofit organization and has received its EIN (Employer Identification Number). All donations go directly to Qatra’s official bank account. We are currently in the process of obtaining tax-exempt status.
This ensures that your contributions are securely managed under formal financial governance, with oversight by our treasurer and accountant. We maintain full transparency and accountability for all funds received and disbursed.

Security and Safety Measures

All women and team members involved in the Marhama Project undergo thorough security vetting and verification to ensure the safety and integrity of the initiative. Only trusted and verified associates are welcomed to join the project. For local functionality and the protection of participants, the workspace and management are women-only. Importantly, no contributions or funds will ever be transferred directly or indirectly to the de-facto authorities on the ground. Our priority is the safety, dignity, and autonomy of the women we support.

How Will Funds Be Used?

We aim to raise $25,000-30,000 to support the pilot project and lay the foundation for sustainable growth.
Your donation will help cover:

Sewing machines and raw materials
Renting and maintaining a safe, equipped workspace
Monthly compensation for the 8 women artisans
Salaries for 8 qualified administrative and operational team members
Local delivery, packaging, and export logistics
A reserve fund for emergencies and safety-related needs

Profit Model & Transparency

We are committed to:

Financial transparency
Ethical compensation
Sustainable development over one-time aid
Choosing secure, verified members for the local team

Measuring Impact

In the first three months, success will be measured through:

Income earned by the women
Quality and completion of their handcrafts
Their feedback and well-being
Successful first sales and customer satisfaction
This data will guide our expansion phase.

Our Vision

The Marhama Project is part of Qatra’s broader mission:
To empower Afghan women to become financially independent so they can protect themselves and their children, break the cycle of domestic abuse rooted in economic dependency, and restore fairness to the handmade goods industry—where craftswomen receive the full value of their labor, not just a fraction.
We envision an Afghanistan where women’s skills are recognized, fairly compensated, and celebrated.
This is not just charity — it’s dignity in action.

A Call to Action

We have watched women raise families with nothing but thread, hope, and strength. Today, we want to honor that resilience by creating a better path—one of fairness, dignity, and independence.
If you’ve ever wanted to support Afghan women in a direct, meaningful, and transparent way, this is that moment.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps lay the foundation of something long-term and impactful. Every donation helps free an Afghan woman from the chains of dependency and abuse.
