Sahar Naseri and three other Afghan girls arrived in the Bay Area last year, determined to pursue the education that was denied to them under the Taliban. My family has had the privilege of hosting Sahar, and we have witnessed firsthand the resilience and dedication she and her friends have shown. Despite the immense challenges they faced, all four girls enrolled in high school, worked tirelessly, and graduated with excellent grades. This spring, they took the next big step and started college, opening new doors for their futures.


Previously, we raised funds to support Sahar’s first year of living expenses, thanks to the generosity of our community. Now, we hope to extend that support to a broader group of Afghan girls who are striving to further their studies and advocate for universal access to education. Many of these young women face significant financial barriers, including legal fees, tutoring, school fees, and other essential expenses that come with adjusting to life in a new country and pursuing higher education.
