On Sunday, July 5th, a fire broke out on the JCC SLO property in San Luis Obispo. The Jewish Community of SLO is incredibly grateful to CAL FIRE and favorable wind conditions for keeping the main synagogue building, the olive orchard, and the preschool area completely safe.
However, the fire burned a significant portion of the back zone, including a barn structure and surrounding land. The damage to the grounds is much more extensive than originally realized, and we need to quickly make repairs and reclaim parts of the land. Camp Shoreshim, San Luis Obispo's only Jewish summer camp, is scheduled to start in just a few weeks. Furthermore, this land is a vital space for local college students, regularly hosting outdoor gatherings and events for Cal Poly, Hillel, Chabad, and Alpha Epsilon Pi.
The Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi here in SLO is launching this campaign to fund immediate land reclamation efforts. Your support will help us restore the grounds before camp begins and ensure that Cal Poly students have a beautiful, welcoming space to return to this upcoming school year.
