My name is Adriana Zenon. I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Failure in January of 2023. Before I found out about my kidney failure, I was experiencing consistent migraines, nausea, frequent urination, and muscle aces. The first time I was urgently admitted into the hospital, my partner franticly took me, and I was later advised that I had less than 15% kidney function. I was in complete shock hearing this news, and didn’t know what life meant for me moving forward. Leaving the hospital after being there for two weeks, I was scared and lost, knowing my life has completely changed, and had to give up everything I had.
My kidney failure was caused by an autoimmune disorder called vasculitis that I was unaware I had. I started dialysis immediately in the hospital along with going to a clinic 3 times a week for 3-4 hours. By March 2023 I had my first surgery and switched to peritoneal dialysis at home every day for 8 hours. I was listed on the transplant list on December 2023. Over the last 2 years since then, I haven’t been able to work because of the many side effects dialysis comes with, and having a compromised immune system.
I had to quit my job as a Case Manager I obtained after finishing my studies at CSUBakersfield, and moved back home with my parents in Palmdale for their support during this medical life change I was experiencing. I had to make the hardest decision to re-home my cat Oliver that I had for 3 years, to be able to focus on my health.
Since I’ve been diagnosed, I have been attending all scheduled appointments monthly, completing all treatments, taking prescribed medicine, and staying healthy for a transplant. My family, my partner, and friends have been a huge support system for me during this time in my life. I’m also very grateful for my kidney community I have became apart of on social media, and meeting people in the same situation as me.
Finances have been very difficult for me, having to go on social security disability and unemployment for a short time, this has set me back tremendously without having a steady source of income. I’m asking for assistance through this GoFundMe to help cover costs for the surgery, living expenses, and the new medications . Anything helps and is greatly appreciated ! Thank you all so much for your support during my journey.
