Hello, my name is Adi, and I am reaching out for your support to help me achieve my dream of becoming a filmmaker. My journey has been marked by resilience, creativity, and an unyielding passion for storytelling.
My Background
Growing up in Ethiopia, my love for film began to take root. From a young age, I was captivated by Hollywood films, sparking a profound passion for filmmaking. I watched many films and stories, both fictional and true, from various filmmakers. However, I never saw the stories of my people being told. I never saw anyone from my background breaking through in the industry or representations of the rich culture and experiences of my people on screen. This lack of representation fueled my desire to become a filmmaker and bring these untold narratives to life. Coming to the United Kingdom as a refugee three years ago, I faced numerous challenges, but they only strengthened my resolve to pursue my dreams. I aim to break the ice and show young dreamers like me that there is a place for us in this industry.
My Accomplishments
Despite the odds, I have made significant strides toward my dream. I created a series of short films, including collaborations with Little Angel Theatre and Humans Move Dance Company, and filmed a documentary for Frantic Assembly about their renowned project "Ignition." I took a film course with BFI, becoming an alumnus, and later successfully completed the Craft Skills Residential at NFTS, specializing in cinematography. One of my films premiered at BFI IMAX, showcasing the culmination of my hard work and dedication.
As a multi-talented artist, I have worked as a dancer, actor, choreographer, photographer, cinematographer, and director. I have had the privilege of working and performing with esteemed companies such as Frantic Assembly, Theatre Rites, Clod Ensemble, Agudo Dance Company, Breaking Convention, Walker Movement Theatre Company, Guildford Shakespeare, and Humans Move Dance Company, among others. Notably, I graduated from Frantic Assembly's Ignition project and Clod Ensemble's Catalyser project. I was also a finalist for YMCA's Young Achiever of the Year and the recipient of the Lewis Swell Memorial Award. Additionally, some of my photography work has been published in The Guardian and The Financial Times, further showcasing the breadth of my artistic talents.
My Aspiration
I aspire to study at the London Film Academy (LFA), one of the best film academies in the world. Out of 600 applicants from around the globe, I was among the few selected for this prestigious opportunity. However, the total cost for the two-year course is £44,000. While I have applied for a scholarship that covers half the amount and secured student finance, I still need £8,000 to make my dream a reality.
How You Can Help
I am seeking your support to raise £8,000 to cover the remaining course fees and secure my place at LFA. Your contribution will not only help me achieve my dream but also empower me to bring the untold stories of my people to the world through film. With your help, I can become a beacon of hope and an example for others from similar backgrounds, showing them that it is possible to achieve their dreams despite the odds.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Any contribution, no matter how small, will bring me one step closer to my goal. Please share my campaign with others who might be interested in supporting my journey.
Warm regards,
Adi
