Support Addison's Journey to Recovery

Hi, my name is Taylor, and I am Addison's mom. On November 18th, 2024, around 12:30 AM, Addison scared us with a loud gasp in her sleep. What I thought to be a simple nightmare that I could soothe my baby girl out of turned into a journey we would never imagine. I went to soothe her and found that her eyes were rolling into the back of her head and she was convulsing. EMS transported us straight to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where we got the confirmation that she had a seizure. They sent us home with one low-dose seizure medication and the hope that she would never have a seizure again.

The next morning, Addison woke up saying that her head was hurting only on the left side. I immediately took her to Franklin Memorial Hospital, where they performed a CT scan. The CT scan came back showing that Addison had no brain matter in the left frontal lobe of her brain. FMH sent us directly back to RMH, where they performed an MRI that confirmed what the CT scan had shown earlier that same day. They also performed an EEG, which showed that she was not only having seizures while asleep but her brain was trying to go into seizures while awake as well. We went to Carilion Neurology, where they performed yet another EEG and stated they were seeing the same things that they had confirmed on the EEG performed in the ED.

Since then, we have been to UVA, where Dr. Grabb told us that Addison would have to have surgery to take out a “Carnivorous Malformation” in her brain. He stated that this “CM” is very much like a tumor, only it does not grow. I am starting this GoFundMe to get help with Addison as well as bills while I am going to be out of work to care for her.
