On November 13th, 21-month-old Addison was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. ALL Type B is a type of blood cancer more common in young children. There are no known causes and no definitive genetic factors that play a role in the formation of lymphocytic cancer cells in the bone marrow.
The day prior, Mayra and Brian had taken Addison to the hospital. She was having unexplained fevers and fatigue. They started to notice her limping, and she wasn't finishing her food or drinking her milk. After some blood work and testing, they were sent to oncology at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. They started her on IV antibiotics and blood transfusions right away. Today, she has surgery planned for a bone marrow draw, a spinal tap, and port placement. She will start chemotherapy, and they estimate she will have to do chemotherapy for 2 years. This next month will be the hardest for her.
We are really hopeful for Addi and her recovery. Everything is very overwhelming right now, and Brian and Mayra are constantly receiving new information. If you can help support in any way, even with prayers, we all would be grateful.
Mayra and Brian also have two boys, Jordan and Jacob, who also have to transition in this new world. We all just want to try and help them as much as possible and try to eliminate the financial burden so they can focus on what is important, Addison. Thank you in advance for your support.
