My niece Addilyn is a Senior in high school. Earlier this school year, she was in a car accident, which led to her being checked for a concussion. During those scans, her family was shocked to discover she had a mass on her brain, which turned out to be a tumor. I am amazed every day at this family's strength and love. At a time when Addilyn's biggest worries should be her grades, Senior pictures, prom, and just enjoying a normal teenage life, she is instead preparing to have brain surgery. Addilyn is so smart, funny, and sweet. She is a joy to be around, and her smile is absolutely contagious. Her parents are always so quick to help a cause or someone in need. They are just a kind, generous, and loving family. Her dad would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

The expenses of staying in Nashville for Addilyn's surgery and recovery are putting a strain on her family. The funds raised will help cover medical bills, travel expenses, lodging, and food during their stay, as well as food at home for their other two children. They may also need to arrange a kennel stay for their large dogs, as Addilyn's recovery will require her to avoid being around the dogs for her safety. After surgery, she may not be able to walk well at first, and she won't be allowed to bend over or lift more than five pounds. The dogs could accidentally knock her down or harm her during this vulnerable time, so keeping them safely kenneled is important for her recovery. The family has applied for Ronald McDonald House but has not yet received confirmation. While they have lodging for at least four days, they do not know how long Addilyn will need to be in the hospital, and her recovery at home is expected to last at least two months, during which she will need constant care.
