Adam initially noticed more frequent bloody noses and scheduled an appointment with an ENT in December of 2025. Initially was put on acid reflux pills, at the follow-up visit the doctor noted a paralyzed vocal cord and goiter/tumor of the thyroid that was not previously visible at initial appointment and scheduled a CT scan. After imaging of head, neck, and thoracic spine including CT scans, MRI’s, ultrasounds and biopsies the devastating news came. Diagnosed with Thyroid cancer that extended down on the left side and into the trachea as well as lesions on the T1 and T2 vertebral bodies. Things moved very quickly for them with all the testing and imaging needed prior to surgery.
Surgery was scheduled for January 29th, Adam underwent a nine and half hour surgery to remove the thyroid and reconstruct his trachea. To reconstruct the trachea they had to use an artery and vein from his left arm, skin graft from left leg, and part of his rib. He was on a ventilator and in a paralytic state in the ICU for 8 days. The boys weren't able to see Adam until he was moved out of ICU on day 10 and he was able to come home on day 12! This has been a lot to process and very tough on all of them as well as the entire Bice/Krumland families.
Adam will have upcoming radiation 5 days a week for both the thyroid and spinal lesions, that plan is still unclear as they will follow-up with his entire team of doctors next week. There is a likely possibility he will need to go to Omaha daily for radiation treatments, the timeframe of treatment is unknown at this time.
With the many uncertainties ahead, Adam being off of work for an unknown amount of time recovering and Kari back to work fulltime, the Bice Family could use some assistance with meals, gas money, hotel stays during treatments/hospitalizations, and medical bills.
If you're unable to donate at this time, please keep the Bice family in your prayers
