My name is Adam Phelps, and I am a proud member of Troop 19 in Waynesboro, PA. I am currently working towards earning my Eagle Scout rank and am excited to share my project with you.

For my Eagle Scout project, volunteers and I will be removing the old barn cat enclosure at Antietam Humane Society and replacing it with a safer, more secure one. The current enclosure is falling into disrepair. Among other things, it has gaps in the fencing and needs a roof for shelter from the elements. The new enclosure will be larger, the fencing will be replaced with the bottom edge trenched into the ground, and it will have a metal roof. These changes will keep the outdoor working cats who are awaiting adoption safe by preventing their escape, and providing shelter from the elements while still allowing them to be outside.

Even though they are not suited for the indoors, because they are typically feral or only semi-social, working cats are an important part of our community. Barns, stables, farms, warehouses, and other similar locations allow the cats to use their natural abilities to hunt and patrol, which helps keep the locations free of various pests. Working cats adopted from Antietam Humane Society come spayed/neutered, vaccinated, flea-treated, and ear-tipped, and they are free to adopt! These cats have typically been trapped in the area and are spayed/neutered and vetted to help keep the wild nuisance cat population down.

To successfully complete this project, I am seeking financial support and donations. The total estimated cost of the project is $1,500. Your generous donation will go towards purchasing supplies, tools, and refreshments for volunteers. Any remaining funds will go to further improve the barn cat enclosure and Antietam Humane Society in general.
