Support Adam Houchins In His Paralysis Recovery
Hello, my name is Lindsey and as some of you now know, my brother-in-law Adam Houchins was in a pool accident on the 4th of July. Luckily all of our families were together and with his family being in the medical field, they sprang into action and he had immediate help and support until he could get to the hospital. Unfortunately this accident has left Adam currently paralyzed from the waist down, with some strength and movement in his upper body. The past 11 days have contained every emotion on the spectrum, but have shown Kendra and Adam just how many people are behind them in this journey. The communities both in Petersburg Indiana, where Adam is from and where the accident took place, and here locally in Newburgh/Evansville Indiana, have shown so much support and aid that our families cannot express enough gratitude for. Adam’s journey is just beginning. His humor and positive attitude have never wavered through all of this. He is ready to get to Atlanta to begin his therapies that will hopefully help him regain use of his upper body. He’s had to delay his trek down there already to go through another surgery to fix another fracture, but he’s well on his way to healing. We are grateful for his local union hall to have already put up the money for his flight down to Atlanta when he is ready and able to make the move.
We ask that everyone who prays to pray for Adam to maintain his positive energies, his strength to push his boundaries in rehab, and his overall future progress. For Kendra and her health and ability to keep pushing through all of this, and for little Nora to maintain her strength of being a flexible little girl and rolling with the punches.
At this point in time we don’t quite know what the future holds for Adam’s needs but we know there will be a lot of moving parts for a while. We know Kendra and Adam will need a new vehicle to ensure Adam’s transportation to and from will be easy. Mobility vehicles can come with decent price tags. Mobility equipment will be an ongoing investment for them as well. Eventually we will work to ensure their home is also accessible for Adam.
As Adam states he is not letting this ‘define who he is’ this is just a new normal to live out and we are going to try to make that as comfortable as we can for himself, Kendra and Nora. So while Adam focuses on himself and being able to ‘hold and hug Nora again’ as he’s stated is his biggest goal, we’d like to see if we can financially make things easier. If you feel as though you are comfortably able to give to their cause, we graciously appreciate it, as do they. If you cannot but are able to pray or send positive vibes no matter what you believe, we absolutely will accept that! We thank everyone for their support in whatever way they can give it!
