Support Acorn Woodland Teachers on Strike
Donation protected
Oakland Education Association (OEA) has called for the teacher strike to start Thursday, February 21. We are raising our collective voice for a living wage, reduced class sizes and crucial student supports such as nurses and counselors.
Our school, Acorn Woodland (AWE), is a wonderful small public school in East Oakland. Our school culture is very strong: students are proud to be Acorn students; parents are involved in the school on a daily basis; and our small team of teachers works tirelessly to support our students in achieving academic excellence. We are extremely committed to our kids and this community.
Many of our teachers and other staff members are living paycheck to paycheck and will face significant hardship as we go on strike. (We are not paid when we strike and will not receive back pay). We are creating an AWE strike fund to support teacher and staff who need help paying bills when on strike during what will already be a very stressful time. Money will be shared among striking staff those who identify significant hardships to pay rent, buy groceries, and pay their bills while striking. Any unused funds will be shared among classrooms to buy new books for our classroom libraries.

Might you be willing to donate to the cause? Thank you for any amount you are willing to give.
Here are a few pics of us from the seven days in action.
Acorn and Encompass teachers and families on the line together.

And one from our traditional Friday assemblies (which we can't wait to resume!!)
