Hello friends,
My name is Mikah and this is my dog, Ace.
I got Ace during covid when I was 21 and he has been with me through multiple job changes, roommates, relationships and moves. He is my best friend, my baby and the most consistent thing in my life.
At the beginning of fall 2025, Ace developed an infection in his nail bed. By December 2025 it was determined to be a malignant tumor that caused lysis and ultimately dissolved most of the bone in the affected toe. Upon veterinary recommendation, we amputated the toe and sent it off for testing. Within a week we were told that Ace had Squamous Cell Carcinoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer. In a best case scenario, if literally everything went right, we got 2 years with him. But more often than not, dogs with SCC don’t survive past a year post-diagnosis.
Unfortunately, we did not get the best case scenario. The surgery site where his toe was taken never developed scar tissue and this week we found out another tumor has already began to develop on the same foot. Given the aggressive nature of SCC we were advised to also send a cell sample of one of his lymph nodes out for testing. We received the results 3/25/25 and the cancer has spread to his lymphatic system. Between the pain from the tumor and the unanticipated spread of the cancer to his lymphatic system, Ace is actively dying.
Oncology and full leg amputation are both options to extend his life, but Ace is at a point where it would likely extend his suffering also. So, his papa and myself have made the very difficult decision to turn towards humane euthanasia and end of life services. Unfortunately, after many vet visits, several rounds of medication, surgical costs, testing, etc. we are having a hard time coming up with the finances for end of life services. The downside to pet ownership is that no one prepares you for the (actual financial) cost of saying goodbye.
So, our family is asking for your help to raise the funds to cover the left over medical costs, euthanasia, and private cremation. Please, help us give our boy peace.
