We are Santi and Cata — speaking on behalf of our family. Our world has been turned upside down in just one week.

Our beloved mother, a soul full of energy and joy, a lover of life and its small, beautiful moments, has been diagnosed with acute liver failure. What started as a common virus — HSV-1 — triggered a rare and life-threatening condition called HLH (Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis), where the immune system attacks the body itself.

She is currently in the ICU, on life support, receiving chemotherapy and antivirals to help reduce her immune response. We are waiting to see how her body responds to treatment and are also exploring the feasibility of a liver transplant.

This is just the beginning of a long and uncertain journey. While our parents do have health insurance that covers a significant portion of the medical care, the deductible is high, and the out-of-pocket costs are quickly adding up. Our dad has had to take significant time off work to be by her side, and the day-to-day hospital-related expenses for the family have begun to accumulate. We’re reaching out to our community for support to help ease the financial burden during this critical time.
