Help Build Classrooms for Refugee Children in Uganda

In November, I dedicated my birthday to supporting the efforts to build a school for refugee children in Uganda. Thanks to early donors, the three classrooms now have a foundation. As we start the New Year, we are renewing this campaign with determination to complete the classrooms and bring 300 refugee children into school in 2026.

My name is Joseph Munyambanza, and I’m raising funds to support Abraham Deng, a former refugee and founder of Silicon High School in northern Uganda.

Abraham fled war in South Sudan as a child, grew up in a refugee settlement, and later earned the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship to study at African Leadership University. Instead of pursuing a high-paying job, he returned to the camp to found Silicon High School—bringing education, coding, and innovation to refugee children who would otherwise have little access to learning.

Today, the school serves 120 students (63% girls) with two temporary classrooms. When it rains, learning stops. Our goal is to build three safe, permanent classrooms so these children can learn with dignity and the school can grow.

Progress so far:
Thanks to your generosity, we raised $2,000, which funded 8,000 bricks, sand, and materials—enough to lay the foundation for all three classrooms.

Budget update:
Working with a local engineer, we revised the plan to reduce costs by 50% while ensuring the classrooms are usable. With the foundation laid, we will work on the walls, roofing, and floors, with doors and plastering to follow later.

Additional funds needed: $10,600
Even small gifts make a difference—one brick (including transport) costs just $0.10.

Every donation helps ensure that rain never stops learning again at Silicon High School. Please donate what you can and share this campaign widely.

Together, let’s build hope—brick by brick.
