Abigail's journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and an unyielding spirit. Her story began in 2017 when she entered 10th grade, a time marked by significant hardship. Her father fell gravely ill with a mysterious skin disease that left him unable to walk for three years. Despite this challenge, Abigail's inner strength and perseverance guided her through these difficult times.

Growing up in Chunga, Chimutengo, in a family of five with two older sisters, Abigail's environment was far from ideal. She grew up in an impoverished compound surrounded by numerous taverns, which made it difficult for her to study in the presence of extremely loud noises. The place was a haven for crime and illicit activities, making it unsafe and unlikely for her to form a network of academically determined youth, and it being plagued by gender discriminatory practices such as early motherhood and child marriage left her without any female role models to look up to. In spite of the drawbacks her environment caused, she was determined to overcome these limitations. Despite this challenge, Abigail still persevered as she started off from home as early as around 5 AM in the morning, just so she could have extra time to study in a conducive environment. Her school being a low-funded public institution with inadequate learning resources; however, she managed to excel. Abigail's hard work paid off when she ranked in the 99th percentile among nearly 700 students in her graduating class, earning a merit scholarship from the Zambian government to complete her secondary education. Aside from propelling her potential through academics, Abigail's leadership skills became evident when she successfully petitioned for the school's first bus in nearly two decades. With the support of the student body council that she was an executive member of, she actively participated in raising $43,000 USD (approximately 720,000 ZMK in 2019). This achievement showcased her effective advocacy and organizational skills. However, Abigail’s resilience towards being a profound scholar and leader surpass her tenure in high school.

Because Abigail's family continued to struggle financially even beyond her father's recovery in 2022, she couldn't start college immediately. However, she didn't let this setback deter her. In the same year, she applied for Zambia Robotics, one of the most renowned STEM initiatives in Zambia, recognizable at an intercontinental scale. After successfully earning a place in the 2022 First Global competition in Switzerland, she once again exhibited remarkable technical and leadership skills, earning her the title of team captain. Further expanding her role as a figurehead, she secured a 100% scholarship for her team's participation in the First Global competition by crafting a compelling financial aid application with her mentor. Abigail led the rapid development of their robot, Vichi, in under five days—an impressive feat compared to the standard months-long timeframe.

Interestingly, Abigail's leadership qualities and sense of responsibility extend into other areas of her life as well. As she stepped into adulthood in the same year, she took on the role as one of the providers for her family, working a full-time internship as an SAT tutor at Zambian Institute for Sustainable Development. Her dedication led to her selection as one of two exclusive tutors for the inaugural SAT prep program in 2023, endorsed by the US Embassy through Education USA. Now, after four gap years, Abigail has been accepted on a generous scholarship covering for tuition, room and board as well as other expenses, for her leadership and academic merit, to attend Soka University of America, a prestigious institution that aligns perfectly with her academic and personal aspirations. However, she needs financial support to cover her SEVIS fee, VISA Application Fee, flight ticket and any costs affiliated to her arrival in the United States. Our goal is to raise $6500 dollars to meet these expenses, and this is where you can make a difference.

Abigail's story is one of unwavering determination, leadership, and a commitment to making a positive impact. By contributing to her GoFundMe campaign, you are not only helping her achieve her dream of attending Soka University but also investing in a future leader who has already demonstrated her potential to create change. Your support will enable Abigail to continue her education and further her efforts to give back to her community. Let's come together to help Abigail reach her full potential. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in her journey. Thank you for your support in helping Abigail shine her light on her community.
