Hello, my name is McKenzie, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my husband’s sister and her family as they face an incredibly difficult journey with their newborn daughter, Abigail. Sweet Abigail was born on Monday, September 15th, and within moments of entering the world, she began experiencing seizures that caused her heart rate and oxygen levels to drop to dangerously low levels. Doctors quickly discovered that Abigail has a frontal lobe AVM (arteriovenous malformation) and a subdural hematoma. She was intubated immediately and, heartbreakingly, she has continued to suffer seizures despite treatment.

Abigail will most likely need to be transferred to the University of Michigan, nearly 7 hours away, for neurosurgery and specialized NICU care. Her parents, Alissa and James, are facing not only the emotional toll of this medical crisis, but also the practical and financial burdens of extended hospital stays, travel, and caring for their three other young children while being far from home.

We are raising funds to help ease this burden so that Alissa and James can focus on being by Abigail’s side during her long road ahead.
