On December 24th, 2017 - Abel asked Lisa to marry him. It was a day she would never forget. Little did they know their world would be turned upside down just 2 days later.
Abel was diagnosed with a very rare cancer called Retro Peritoneal Cancer on December 26th. The hardest part to swallow was that St Rose Sienna Hospital found it 4 yrs earlier during an appendectomy in the ER and never disclosed the discovery to Abel and Lisa. Even after Abel’s many follow ups, Dr after Dr dismissed his complaints with what can only be blamed on a sloppy and broken healthcare system, never looking at reports that were provided to them or even further exploring his complaints or symptoms with proper protocol.
Although Lisa tried to convince him otherwise Abel felt having been diagnosed would be a huge burden to place on everyone so he decided to keep his cancer between his family and small group of friends.
His doctors in Vegas and at City of Hope say Abel is still here as a testimony of his own strength and determination. He is proving that all things are possible with God by his side.
Cancer effects everyone when it strikes and especially those closest to you. This has been no different for Abel and Lisa's 4 young children Sierra, Mikaela, Isabella and Jace whom have been forced to grow up very quickly, and deal with things that they have always wanted to shield them from.
As their friends and family, we feel called to ask for any support and assistance we can provide to help alleviate the financial burden that accompanies this ugly disease. Our goal is for Abel and Lisa to focus on what matters the most right now, and to be able to focus on his fight.
This family needs us, and every penny counts, so please if Abel, Lisa or their kids have touched your lives in any way then do what you can to support this incredible family. The medical bills are rolling in and we feel called to stand up and support this incredible man and his family.
Watching someone you love suffer and fight for their life is excruciating because you feel so helpless in witnessing their fight. This is our chance and our moment to support a man and family that has done so much for members of the Las Vegas community and beyond. Please support how you can, as every penny counts towards supporting them during this season.
