Support Abdul: A Lifeline for a Community Hero

Donation protected
I'm asking on behalf of my dear friend, Abdul, for your consideration in supporting him during this time of crisis in his life. Here is his story if you are compelled to help and learn more:

Abdul works at Kent-Meridian High School as our Refugee and Immigrant Student Achievement Advisor. However, he does so much more outside of his work day (unpaid) to support ALL of our students, families and staff. You see, Abdul is a giver. If you ask anyone who knows him in our school community, they will tell you he is the hardest working and kindest of humans who they count on daily for guidance. He is a highly-respected member of our community and worked directly with the U.S. military as a liaison and interpreter to support our troops and mission in Afghanistan. He has dedicated his life and has sacrificed daily to support others who are actively working to escape war and become educated, productive members of their communities. In doing so, he has also sacrificed financially to support others, which has put his family in jeopardy of being homeless. He does not wish to burden others nor ask for anything, but at this time, he really needs our support.

You see, since the Taliban returned to power three years ago, Abdul has tirelessly attempted to support friends and family with legal and financial support to get them out of Afghanistan. He saved to pay fees to get the documents to get his aging parents safely to the U.S. and was able to resettle his sister in Canada, but that resettlement has cost more than 50,000 Canadian dollars. In order to secure these funds, Abdul and his family have worked daily and taken out loans. He is still approximately 20,000 (USD) short and is having to use rent money to pay the legal fees and ensure her safety.

Abdul works more than 10+ hours daily in our community assisting students, staff and families with both academic and emotional struggles. He has set up several programs to raise awareness and funds to support refugee students with food and supplies and is currently working with local colleges to set up a literacy program at Kent-Meridian for adults.

By helping Abdul, you are not only helping an incredibly kind and generous family in crisis, you're helping our KM community in keeping one of our most hard-working friend doing what he loves in our community.

Thank you for reading his story and learning more about him.
