Nearly a month ago, our lives changed in ways we never expected. My partner Abby, known to many of you as Cow or Moo, was suddenly hospitalized after a severe reaction to antibiotics. What started as common symptoms quickly became a life-threatening medical emergency, and within days Abby was airlifted three hours away to a major city hospital ICU. I stayed by her side the entire time, sleeping in a chair for weeks, helping advocate for her care, and supporting her through every step of recovery. If she had not been transferred when she was, she likely would not have survived. Abby is an incredibly stubborn fighter, and thanks to the amazing medical team caring for her, along with the love and support from our community, she is now stable and recovering. But the road ahead is still going to be long and difficult.
Abby has suffered serious complications including kidney and liver damage. Due to complications involving her spleen and other ongoing medical concerns, she will likely require both a liver and kidney transplant in the future. While some issues have stabilized or improved, she still faces months of recovery, specialist appointments, and long-term care planning.
By the end of the year, we will be relocating Abby to Ontario so she can be closer to her parents and extended family while we coordinate ongoing treatment and specialist care. We are also working to make a small home accessible for her recovery and daily life, including ramps, lift systems, and other mobility and accessibility equipment she will need moving forward. Part of this fundraiser will also help support the immigration and relocation process so I can legally migrate to Canada and remain by Abby’s side full time as her caregiver and support person. Unfortunately, international relocation, immigration filings, travel, and long-term settlement costs are extremely expensive, especially while navigating ongoing medical care at the same time.
This past month has been physically, emotionally, and financially overwhelming for both of us, but we are doing everything we can to keep moving forward together. We miss our community deeply, the streams, the games, the laughter, and the comfort all of you have brought into our lives over the years. We wanted to share what’s happening honestly and keep everyone updated as best we can.
I want to be fully transparent about how every donation is used. As we reach important milestones—whether it’s medical treatments, relocation, or accessibility upgrades—I’ll share updates so you know exactly how your support is making a difference. Thank you for standing beside us during one of the hardest moments of our lives.
With love, Silver & Abby
