Days after returning home from her family’s first trip to Disney World, Abby noticed a swollen lymph node on the right side of her neck. After extensive testing, Abby was diagnosed with Classic Hodgkin’s Lymphoma while 27 weeks pregnant. On December 8, Abby will begin an aggressive course of ABVD chemotherapy at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center.
As nurses, Abby and her husband of nearly 8 years, Tanner (now a nurse practitioner), have spent the past decade caring for others. Over the summer, Abby was fortunate enough to temporarily step back from nursing to raise their 2-year-old twins, Jack and Connor. While Tanner is currently working full-time, Abby’s diagnosis has turned their world upside down. As you can imagine, no one envisioned Abby, Tanner, Jack, and Connor would be preparing for their newest little family member while Abby was simultaneously receiving IV chemotherapy. Abby and baby boy Purnhagen will both be closely monitored throughout her expected 4-6 month course of chemotherapy. Abby will have a very short reprieve from chemotherapy during the time of delivery, with treatments resuming shortly thereafter.
Abby’s most coveted, and at one time seemingly elusive, title of “Mama” has proved to be her most fulfilling yet. Her husband and sons adore her, as do all of her family and friends. As she herself will tell you, Abby’s only concern is her family’s wellbeing. This GoFundMe will allow her to focus on her healing and relieve the financial stresses and pressures associated with a cancer diagnosis and the uncertainties of the future.
Your support will make a real difference for Abby and her family. Every donation will help provide stability, cover essential expenses, and offer peace of mind during this incredibly challenging time. Thank you for considering a gift to help Abby focus on what matters most—her health and her family.
