Support Abbie's Heart Transplant Journey

My mother Abbie is an amazing mom, grandmother, sister, wife, aunt, and friend. She has always had a huge heart - she is the first person to donate to anyone in need, even total strangers. Anyone that meets her notices her kindness and generosity. She has touched so many lives and made the world a better place.

Now, her loving heart needs an upgrade. She has been battling heart issues for years and recently, her health and quality of life have been in steep decline. Last week, she was admitted to the hospital for yet another round of testing, and her doctors told her she wouldn’t be leaving without a new heart. Today, she was cleared for a transplant, and the road before her is a long and hard one.

She must wait in the hospital until a match is found and a transplant takes place. After that, she will need to stay in the hospital or rehab clinic for recovery and PT. The medications she will have to take to prevent rejection of the heart are extremely expensive - the hospital told her to expect to pay about 10k for the first few months after the transplant. In addition, we will need to make several changes to our home to accommodate her recovery and healing.

This all adds up to a lot of expenses. Abbie and Al, her husband, are both retired and on a fixed income. While her health and longevity is priceless, this could take a heavy toll on their retirement savings. I’m hoping that together, we can alleviate this burden for them and she can focus on getting stronger and healthier. Please consider supporting her transplant journey and road to recovery!

Update 7/4: Wow, thank you to everyone who has donated! We are already more than 10% to our goal in just a couple of days. It means so much to our family. It’s a great way to keep up her spirit, too. It’s a waiting game right now and that part can drive you crazy.
