Honoring the Life and Legacy of Abbie Mae Simar

Our lives were forever changed on November 10th, 2024, when Abbie was rushed to the Emergency Room with severe pain. After extensive testing, we received devastating news—Abbie was diagnosed with high-grade uterine carcinosarcoma, an aggressive and rare cancer. Further tests confirmed it was advanced metastatic endometrial carcinoma, meaning it had already spread.  

From that day forward, Abbie fought with incredible courage. She endured six cycles of chemotherapy (Carbo/Taxol) combined with Keytruda immunotherapy at the University of Minnesota in an effort to shrink the tumors enough for surgery.  

On February 19th, 2025, Abbie underwent a major, complex surgery, including a radical hysterectomy, appendectomy, and extensive cancer debulking. Her surgeons were able to spare her colon, and she worked tirelessly to recover and regain her strength, determined to keep fighting.  

Despite her unwavering determination, the cancer continued to progress. On July 30th, 2025, my beloved wife Abbie Mae Simar went peacefully to be with the Lord, surrounded by love.

Remembering Abbie

Abbie was a vibrant, compassionate woman with deep roots in Willmar, Minnesota. Born on December 16th, 1986, she was the heart of our family. Many knew her from her years at Coborn’s Inc., where she worked for over a decade, and at Charter Communications, where her kindness, dedication, and warm smile touched countless lives.

She loved her work, her community, and above all, her family. Abbie was the one who would always go the extra mile—offering a kind word, lending a helping hand, or making someone feel seen and valued. Even through the grueling months of treatment, surgeries, and hospital stays, her faith and joy never wavered.

A Final Memory I Will Cherish Forever

The day before she passed, I sat at Abbie’s bedside. She took my hand, and I told her I was sorry. She gently replied, “I know, Ryan.” I told her, “I love you,” and she whispered back, “I love you too.”

The pastor suggested we take a picture together. I placed my arm behind her head, and she lifted herself just enough to kiss me. With her eyes closed, she gave the sweetest smile—a final gift I will treasure for the rest of my life.
