On March 26, Abbie’s husband, Ray was in a devastating e-bike accident that caused a traumatic brain injury and multiple strokes. He was only 39 years old. Ray spent 8 weeks in the ICU, fighting for his life. Though he eventually opened his eyes, he was determined to be in a vegetative state and was not responsive to basic neurological tests. Based on multiple CT scans and MRIs, the doctors did not believe he would ever have a meaningful recovery and would remain in a vegetative state for the rest of his life.

Ray was moved to hospice on May 7, and for two heartbreaking weeks, Abbie and the kids stayed by his side. They read to him, held his hand, and prayed he could feel the love surrounding him, even if he couldn’t speak. On May 21, Ray passed away peacefully, surrounded by the people who loved him the most.

Ray was a hardworking, devoted father and husband. He worked three jobs remotely to support his family and give them the best life he could. Now, Abbie is left planning a funeral in Rhode Island — far from their home in Western Colorado — while trying to hold her children through the unimaginable loss of their dad. The cost of travel, the funeral, and starting over without Ray has put an enormous financial burden on her shoulders.

This GoFundMe is to help relieve that pressure. To help Abbie, Amelia, and Ben travel for the funeral, cover arrangements, and begin the next chapter of their lives with a little less weight.

Thank you so much.
