Over the past few months, my dear friend Aaron and his sister Kelsay have been walking through one of the most heartbreaking chapters of their life, caring for their father, Allen, through a long and painful decline from bladder cancer and other serious health complications.

What began as an emergency hospital stay in early April quickly turned into full-time, around-the-clock caregiving. Aaron and Kelsay took unpaid time off work, and completely rearranged their lives to ensure that Allen had the 24/7 care, comfort, and dignity he deserved in his final months, being by his side up until his last moments.

They witnessed his decline firsthand — a devastating, emotionally and physically exhausting experience that no one can ever fully prepare for.

Aaron and Kelsay showed up with immense love, patience, and compassion. But now, they are left not only grieving the deep loss of their father, but also navigating the financial strain of months without income, remaining medical expenses, funeral costs, and the emotional toll of it all.
