I have started this fundraiser to help my Nephew Aaron, his amazing parents Lindsay and Stan, and my beautiful Neices Elyssia and Aila as they navigate this journey together.
Our kids have grown up together and we have spent many days out and holidays together as two families, whose kids just love to spend time with each other.
I know my cousin wouldn’t want to ask for help, but I can see the extra costs involved in Aaron’s care and all the “little” things that add up. So many people ask if they can help, and I thought this might be a really practical way for them to do that.
I asked Lindsay to share Aaron’s story:
In March 2023, Aaron, a 15 year old boy from Edinburgh had been feeling unwell with what doctors initially thought was a UTI or virus.
A month later and after 3 weeks in hospital and various procedures and operations he was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma which is in his bladder.
After this initial blow a further bone scan detected a small area on his spine which could be Cancer. Due to the location a biopsy wasn’t done but Chemo adjusted to treat that area too.
Aaron will get 9 rounds of Chemotherapy with 6-7 weeks of radiotherapy in Glasgow in between.
After the intensive Chemotherapy ends Aaron is looking at another 1-2 years of maintenance Chemo.
This will obviously have a huge impact on his life and he’ll have to adjust to all the possible side effects linked to the treatment.
The funds raised will go towards supporting Aaron through his ongoing journey over the next few years and providing him with experiences to enjoy once he feels strong enough.
The family would also like to use some of the money raised to make T-Shirts that allow easy access to the central line, these will be given out to teenage patients on the ward with Aaron.
