My name is Aamari, and I am an emerging Black artist and performer from the Bronx, New York. Since 2016—and truly, for as long as I can remember—dance has been my way to release tension, transmute frustration, and connect with something greater than myself. My work is deeply rooted in Black ontology and spirituality, and I feel called to use the arts to inspire my communities, to empower ourselves, and to be our own light, even in pressing times.

Now, I have the incredible opportunity to advance my knowledge of dance technique and pedagogy at the renowned Ecole Des Sables, the hub of Contemporary and Traditional African Dances. This program is the first codified Contemporary Dance technique in Africa, and learning here will allow me to bridge cultures of the diaspora, drawing on cultural memory and ancestral knowledge to highlight contemporary issues through dance and performance. These themes are at the heart of my work, and this training will help me connect with communities everywhere through dance as a medium of embodied knowledge and Black and African history.

The funds I am raising will cover the direct cost of tuition for the two-year training, my flight, and essential expenses during the mandatory excursions the program offers. I have been a dedicated and humble student of dance since 2016, and honestly, my entire life. This opportunity is an honor and a dream, and with your help I hope to make this dream a reality.
