Aaiún Nin is a non-binary poet, mixed-media artist, and activist from Angola. Through their work, they confront issues of race, gender, and sexual discrimination, as well as the broader experiences of the LGBT+ community.

Their first poetry collection, Broken Halves of a Milky Sun, was published in the United States in 2022, and their second collection, SE!, was released in August 2025 in Denmark.

Rooted in the context of postcolonial Africa, Nin’s poetry draws deeply from their experiences growing up in a patriarchal society. Their work often addresses the current realities in Angola, including sexual violence against women, religious fundamentalism, social inequality, and racism, blending personal testimony with political urgency.

In 2021, Aaiún applied for asylum, but their application was rejected. They were deported from Denmark, where they had lived for five years, and later received a two-year scholarship in Kraków, Poland. In 2023, they were awarded another residency in Bern, Switzerland, where they currently live.

Their most recent residency has now ended, and while they are in the process of obtaining a new one, the legal procedure is long, uncertain, and unjust, taking a heavy physical and emotional toll. During this time, they are not allowed to work or travel, leaving them without income or access to healthcare.
