Hi! My name is Ashton Culp, I'm a young transgender filmmaker with a passion for telling queer-centric stories.
This is a personal project I've been working on for quite some time, and now that I finally have the means, ability, and team to bring it to life, I would love your help along the way!
Having grown up in the American south, I've seen how religion has negatively impacted the lives of countless out and closeted LGBTQ+ individuals and made them feel ashamed of their identities. With the current political climate around LGBTQ+ individuals, I feel we need stories like this now more than ever, especially those of a historical fiction narrative in a time where queer people were especially ridiculed to show how far we've come.
I'm making this story for any queer person who grew up feeling constricted by their raised religion and unable to express their true selves and love who they want to love.
Synopsis:
Devout Catholic Jacob McCarthy confesses his love to his priest, Father Elias D’Arcy, during a late night confession. Elias not only rejects him, but demonizes him for his feelings and how this could affect both of them if their parish found out. But after the confession, Elias is left to reflect on his own confusing feelings toward Jacob, leading him to grapple with his faith and sexuality. Jacob returns for another confession weeks later, and it’s eluded to at the end that the men start a secret affair.
