A few weeks ago, I wrote a post and deleted it. It was about a young mom and her son, and I was asking for prayers on her behalf. I deleted it the same night because we quickly learned additional details, and for their safety, I didn’t want to draw undue attention to them.

I was initially introduced to her through the non-profit I work for. It came through as an urgent request in CarePortal (vetted by child welfare professionals). I realized it was outside of the scope of what we can offer, so I became involved personally rather than professionally.

But now there’s an opportunity for YOU to help as well! I will share what I can, but I still need to be careful and can’t give all the details.

We have been connected to a beautiful young mama who is only 18 years old, and she has an adorable, almost 4-year-old son—who has a great smile and gives the best hugs!!

They are not originally from the U.S. Shortly after arriving here, she and her son were assaulted— to the point of hospitalization. All the documents she needed for an immigration hearing were intentionally destroyed. She speaks as much English as I speak Spanish (about none), so Google Translate has become my best friend! (Also, one of my actual best friends speaks Spanish and has been instrumental in helping us provide care.)

My entire family has now met these two, and we are determined as a family to help them—because they have no one. Well, that’s not true. They HAD no one. God, in His goodness, allowed us to connect with her at a point when she needed someone the most. And now we have a small group of us intentionally helping her! We’ve managed to get them beds, some VERY basic clothing, and food.

But the biggest need is that she needs $7,000 to cover an immigration lawyer. We have vetted him, and he is legitimate. He will take on her case and get her all the documentation she needs to stay here with a humanitarian green card.

Time is of the essence!! I can’t get into those details right now, but it’s imperative that we get this lawyer on retainer right away. I’m creating a GoFundMe to help raise the lawyer’s fee. Anything extra will be given directly to help them find housing and purchase additional items to meet their basic needs.
