Support a young marine biologist’s conservation journey

Hi, I’m Sarai Cortez, a Peruvian marine biologist and co-founder of Proyecto Cetáceos Perú, an organization dedicated to the conservation of marine megafauna. For over six years, I’ve been committed to creating initiatives that protect whales, dolphins, and other marine species, not only through science, but also by working closely with local communities. My focus has been on promoting local knowledge, building capacity, and raising awareness to drive lasting conservation impact.

I’m excited to share that I’ve been selected as a 2025 Fellow for the Conservation & Communities Fellowship (CCF), organized by the Global Diversity Foundation in collaboration with The Human Edge and Common Purpose. This seven-month program (virtual and in-person) brings together 30 community-based conservation leaders from the Global South to strengthen our mentoring, leadership and practical knowledge and skills, and to build a long-lasting community of practice and support.

Why do I need your support?

I’ve been awarded a scholarship, but I still need to raise €400 to help cover part of my visa and international travel costs to attend the in-person gathering in Kenya this November 2025. With your support, you're not only contributing to my personal and professional growth, but also helping me continue creating a positive impact through Proyecto Cetáceos Perú.

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a big difference and brings me one step closer to making this dream a reality. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being part of this journey! :)
