Hi, I have the most wonderful neighbors all around me. The first one I met 5 years ago, lives right next door & is a wonderful gentleman. He is a Vietnam-era Veteran currently 77 years old. He inherited his childhood home after both of his parents passed on. He lives in the home and has for a majority of his life. Unfortunately, due to how expensive everything is, he doesn’t have the money to fix the roof of his home. It’s older than he is and has been in bad need of repair for quite some time. The home has not been updated for a long time, other than the electrical being replaced almost 2 years ago due to a lightning strike hitting the home during a big summer storm, which much of Grand Ledge was devastated by. Fortunately for him, insurance covered that cost. Due to the nature of having an older home, his utility bills are over-the-top expensive, as are the taxes he pays bi-annually here in Grand Ledge. That’s where his set monthly income goes. I’m asking our G.L. Community and beyond to help me, help him, get the repairs needed for him to live more comfortably before the fall rains and another dreaded winter do more damage to the roof. In our community, I’ve seen folks step up for so many in need, which has inspired me to ask people who can, to help out. If only a few dollars, everything will help. There have been estimates done, and all are way above even the goal on this request. I have faith in the good of people to care for and honor our vets and their needs as they age in life, as well as the faith I have in a community that always stands up to help others.
