Local Veteran Turns to Community for Support to Prevent Foreclosure
Daniel is an 80% disabled veteran who is seeking urgent financial assistance to prevent the loss of his home after a series of unforeseen events over the past five years has left him in a precarious financial situation. Daniel's challenges began in 2020 when he lost his job due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite securing employment in 2021, he faced additional financial strain when his mortgage interest rate increased from 3.5% to 5.5% during a refinancing process. In late 2023, a change in mortgage ownership caused his rate to spike to 8.6%, placing his home at immediate risk of foreclosure. Earlier this year, Daniel's employer announced layoffs, leading to significant staff cuts. While he received a severance package, the funds were quickly depleted covering essential expenses. Combined with living on his VA disability benefits and unemployment support, Daniel finds himself struggling to maintain his single-family home where he lives alone with his service dog. Daniel has stated: "I've exhausted all other options, and my home is all I have left, and I'm trying to avoid homelessness while continuing to rebuild my life."
To help save his home, Daniel has launched a GoFundMe campaign. His goal is to reach the support of a compassionate community that can help him bridge the financial gap. Even a small donation could make a meaningful impact on his ability to stay in his home. Daniel's story is a reminder of the challenges faced by veterans navigating life after service, compounded by economic pressures beyond their control.
