As a Trans-masculine, genderqueer individual, I have aspired to get top surgery since puberty began.

For as long as I've had breasts, there has been a dissonance between my mind and body that I had no choice but to repress.

Growing up in a working-class, patriarchal, adoptive home, my father made clear from very early, that there was no room for expression, growth, or change that he felt was too radical (which was any change). When I came out as queer, he was blatantly homophobic and transphobic as well, barring any hope of financial support & pushing my authentic self further into the closet (repressing identity for safety.)

After his passing in 2020 (after a 5 month battle with cancer), I was liberated from the confines of his expectation or disproval, and began exploring the gender expression I always yearned for. I finally shaved my head in 2020, began hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in 2021, and now I am seeking to finally surgically masculinize my chest.

A consultation alone can cost between $50 and $200, as I have no choice but to seek this treatment outside of insurance. The surgery itself costs between $13,000 and $20,000.
