Hello, and thank you for stopping by! My name is Renée McMillan, and I am a 24 year old transfem person in need of help.
I came out as trans in April of 2022, started HRT the following month, and I can firmly say that it saved my life. Ever since, I have been doing a lot of self-discovery and soul searching; I've found myself to be a kind, caring, creative person who has been working hard to manage my trauma, self-doubt and mental illnesses, all while trying to find in myself to take care of my mind and body. I've also realized my dream of moving somewhere more lively for a queer young adult, with more opportunities for success and with a stronger sense of community.
While I am not in an immediate emergency situation, I have long grown weary of my current living circumstances... trapped in a cold, lonely household with parents who feel distant, in a small town in a notoriously red/conservative county in Washington State with a weak local job market for people like me, who have faced hostility and intimidation from unsafe work environments and even in public for just being out and proud.
Also, a lot of major changes and setbacks that were out of my control that have finally given me the wake-up call to reality that I needed. I've just lost my car, my only brother has moved out of the house, I can't find a second job to raise enough money for myself to help with rent and save for moving/a new car to access places around and outside of town, and I am stuck at home most of the time because of this.
Adding to that, as you likely know, are the copious nationwide threats against the rights of trans Americans, which are only ramping up day by day under the current administration. For example, I rely on Medicaid for healthcare coverage, and the current government are attempting to revoke the ability for Medicaid to cover gender-affirming care, which I rely on to keep up my hormone regimen and to cover electrolysis in the near future.
My dream, and intention behind this fundraiser, is to raise enough money to move as close to Seattle as I possibly (and stably) can. These funds raised by you (as well as myself through my own savings, currently at $1400) will support me in achieving this dream, by helping to cover deposits for a new apartment, and helping me to get a new, mechanically stable vehicle. I simply cannot do this on my own, so I am calling out for help. Though housing is expensive up north, I intend to utilize your donations, mutual aid resources and the stronger job market there to find housing, roommates, a vehicle and a new job. This campaign will make my dream of escaping my situation possible, and help me to have a future and realize my potential as an independent young adult in a place that makes me happy.
