Hi,
My name is Laura Keller and I am starting this Go Fund Me Page for my daughter, Diana. She is a 41 year old cancer survivor and mother of 2 beautiful boys, ages 4 and 12.
Diana was a college athlete whose back issues began in 2011 from a volleyball injury, leading to many years of pain and pain management. In July of 2019, while 7 months pregnant, her back went out and she underwent emergency back surgery while 30 weeks pregnant, involving 10 days in the hospital. They had to remove the majority of her disc in her lower lumbar spine. 8 weeks later she had a c- section to deliver a beautiful, healthy baby boy. 6 months later she was diagnosed with tongue cancer and underwent 2 more surgeries during the height of COVID, always a fighter, we have been blessed with clear cancer scans since then. In November of 2021, she was rear ended at a stoplight and 2 more levels in her spine were herniated and it exacerbated that lower lumbar disc pain from the prior surgery. She has spent the last 2 years receiving steroid epidural injections every 8-12 weeks in addition to oral steroids and pain medicine for breakthrough pain. In the past year, she has been in the ER for debilitating back pain 5 more times with 2 hospital admissions and multiple urgent care visits. She has been in the hospital 3 times in the last 8 weeks from the pain and immobility issues. The pain is totally debilitating and she had to take medical leave from work, unable to cope without high doses of steroids and pain medications. She cannot sit and watch her sons play baseball and basketball, cannot travel or take car rides for more than a few minutes. The pain is crippling just from dropping them off at school in the morning. She has finally found a highly recommended specialists to do disc replacement surgery to alleviate her pain, but they won't take her insurance. She has used up all her savings to pay cash for the surgery and while she was at the hospital for the surgery this morning, her insurance made a last minute denial on the facility charge for the hospital. After innumerable calls with the doctor and the insurance, they have refused to pay, these insurance companies are only concerned with what fits in their boxes and not wellbeing or patient quality of life. She will now need to come up with another $31,000 just to pay for outpatient care for the hospital, this is in addition to $26,000 pulled from her home equity line to pay for the surgery on top of another $25,000 in medical debt she incurred this last year. They sent her home from the hospital until she makes a decision on that large payment or staying crippled in pain. She cannot currently work and draw income. This surgery is supposed to be life changing, allowing Diana a permanent fix and the opportunity to play with her children, sit on the floor with them, watch their games and be the best version of herself to guide them as they grow. Diana's body is steroid dependent now from the long term use to ward off the pain and after the surgery she will need to undergo work with an endocrine specialist in hopes they can wean her body off the steroids while her body learns to produce them naturally again. Diana is a member of Christ Fellowship Church in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. where she formerly served in the nursery, loving on those precious baby souls, until her back pain wouldn't allow her to anymore. She is a local title agent and has worked with many people in the community over the last 15 years, helping them pursue their home ownership dreams. She is a believer in Christ and wants to serve her community and raise her boys up in love and Christ here in South Florida. We are asking for any support you are able to offer to help pay these costs and medical necessities so this mom can re-gain her health after years of suffering. Will you please help her pursue her dream of being able to walk again and live life without pain so she can be present with her family, her children and her community? We thank you in advance for any donation and pray Christ's blessing over your lives.
