Support a Summer of Service in Belize

Donation protected
This past spring break was spent serving at the Kings Children's home near Belmopan, Belize with a group from Campus ministry at GVSU.

We were led by Homer and Robin Allison who were absolutely wonderful hosts and some of the greatest people with the biggest hearts that I've ever known.

While we were we did a fair amount of upkeep work that consisted of cleaning rooms, painting rooms, painting the playground, moving mattresses, etc. and it was great to be able to serve and help better the facilities for the children and future groups that will stay there.

And while this part of the service was great, interacting with and loving on the children was truly life changing for me. A lot of these children come from the worst of the worst of situations. Throughout the week Homer emphasized the idea of "loving big" really emphasizing the idea of going above and beyond to love these children. Knowing that we're growing increasingly tired throughout the week, but choosing to still expend energy and time playing with them, making friendship bracelets, coloring with them, but most importantly just showing them that they are loved.

Outside of our work at the Kings Children's home, we had the opportunity to go to the first ever service at a church that was being planted about 45 minutes away from where we were staying. This church is being led by Job Lopez, who is an amazing person and has a deep love for the Lord. It was an incredible experience being able to hear him preach his entire sermon in both English and Spanish, as this was a very unique experience, especially as this was a new community that was being reached who had previously had very limited access to a church.

On Friday, our group went back out to this church with Job and putting a fresh coat of paint on the exterior of the building.

I could tell countless more stories of the work that we did, and the relationships that were built, and if you have a desire to learn more about what we did, please don't hesitate to reach out and ask!

But now, I'm shifting to look towards the future. I have been trying to come up with a plan for this coming summer since last August. I've looked into several different church camps throughout Michigan, and some other jobs locally and nothing felt right. Throughout my time in Belize, I felt a heavy call that this is where I am supposed to be this summer.

So, I talked with Homer and Job, and was able to come up with a plan to stay with Job and helping him continue with this church plant, along with spending time at the Kings Children's home as well. The goal is to stay down there for 90 days, from mid May until mid August.

This being said, I have about 2 months to raise the funds that will be needed to support this trip. After calculating all of the costs, (mainly where I will stay, food, and transportation) this will total to about $5000.

If you feel led to help support me in this mission, any amount will help!
