We saw a post in Roanoke County about a lost dog being spotted at the Clearbrook Walmart for roughly 3 weeks.
A friend and I went out on 10/25/2025 and spotted the dog immediately, bedded down within a fenced-in stormwater runoff pond adjacent to the roadway. We contacted the manager and had them unlock the gate so we could attempt to get access to the dog.
We had no luck the first day, but we were determined. We visited again on 10/26 and made some progress, but she was nervous and wouldn’t allow for a leash to catch her after numerous hours of patiently waiting in her area. We knew she was curious and wanted to be helped, so we returned on 10/27 with my personal dog, who has helped me gain the trust of other stray dogs in the past.
Within an hour, I was able to get a leash on her, and she was successfully captured.
This husky girl is kind and friendly now that she’s not on the run. She appears dog-social and has played with the finder's dog after having a bath and flea and tick preventative. She has also sniffed the finder's indoor cat a few times and behaved appropriately.
She will need medical care for a limp, which appears to be either an overuse injury or an old injury that has healed. She also will need surgery for bilateral entropion, causing her bottom eyelids to lay flat against her eyeball, causing constant eye irritation. She will likely need a spay surgery as well.
We ultimately would like to find a home for her or a rescue to take her, but would prefer to have her medical needs taken care of so this isn’t a limiting factor to her finding a home.
Please share her, donate if you’re able, and thank you for helping bring her to our attention!
